Faculty Introduction

Welcome to BSC 1085L, Human Anatomy & Physiology. I have been teaching for approximately 4 years. I have been teaching at Broward College for a year and a half in the Natural Science Department. I hope to make your experience both educational and enjoyable. The practical experience you obtain will allow you to apply and integrate the knowledge gained from your classes to real life experiences. The interaction and communication developed between your instructor and peers will encourage maximum absorption and retention of the instructional material if utilized. Most importantly study consistently, have fun and do well. Good luck!!!!!!!!
Course Description

Laboratory exercises coordinated with BSC 1085 including microscope observation, experimentation, study of anatomical models, and dissection. Dissection exercises included. Meets Area 4A general education requirements for A.A. degree. Meets Areas 4 or 5 general education requirements for the A.S. degree. Special fee charged.
Methods of Instruction

This course is a 1-credit hour course and meets 3 times each week (during a 6 week term) for a total of 3 hours per week or 18 hours per term. This class is a blended course which combines face-to-face instructions with online learning activities. Consequently, there will be mandatory face-to-face meetings and structured online activities (for instance assignments and assessments) throughout the semester.
Learning Outcomes

Unit 1: Fundamentals

The student shall be able to recognize anatomical terminology and demonstrate familiarity with the structure and function of the microscope to better understand cytology and histology.

Unit 2: Cells

The student shall be able to describe cellular structures, membrane transport, the events of mitosis, and molecular transport.

Unit 3: Tissues

The student should be able to recognize the various tissue types of the human body.

Unit 4: Skeletal System

The student shall be able to identify the microscopic and macroscopic structure of bones, the bones of the human skeleton, and the types of joints.

Unit 5: Muscular System

The student shall be able to gain an understanding of the gross and microscopic anatomy of muscles as well as muscle physiology, and be able to name and identify selected muscles.

Unit 6: Nervous System and Special Senses

The student shall be able to demonstrate an understanding of the histological and gross anatomical features of the nervous system including the sense organs.

Required Prerequisite(s): CHM 1033. CHM 1040, CHM 1045 is very strongly recommended (see your program requirements).
